The high mountain meadows of the Auvergne are dotted with those odd little stone buildings dating back to the Middle Ages: the burons. They welcome and protect man and beast during the summer months. Falling into disuse for several decades, they slowly disappeared from the landscape and were eventually reduced to simple heaps of stones.
The buron of Niercombe, by its location in The Volcano Natural Park of Auvergne, by overlooking the valley of the Cère from a height of 1500 m, and by its two-level construction, is one of the most emblematic examples. It has been restored using ancestral methods and decorated with a contemporary sensibility. Each element has been specially designed for it, such as the legs of the table cut from the roots of beeches from the nearby forest.
